Gray divorce can take a toll on your finances according to research

According to a recent study from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, the divorce rates among American adults aged 50 years old and above had doubled over the 20 years before 2010. In the same vein, Susan Brown, the lead researcher of the study conducted by Bowling Green State, reviewed divorce data in 2014 and made the conclusion that statistics have not varied over the years.

The study says that factors that contribute to the rise of couples divorcing during their later years include longer lifespans, the presence of more women in the workforce, changing views and ideologies regarding marriage, and higher preferences for remarrying.

Here are what some financial experts recommend for people who suddenly need to take into consideration being newly single when making retirement plans. Divorce at a more mature age can be particularly challenging because a “gray divorce” can be influenced by factors such as limited working years ahead, complicated asset arrangements, and adult children, which can complicate matters.

Financial experts advise divorcing couples to retain an attorney for legal decisions and counsel, move out of their ex’s previously-shared-house and into a smaller space for financial conservation, save and budget money, take care of their health, and maximize their assets, among other things.

When you find it necessary to hire a family law attorney because you need to file for divorce, request for spousal support obligation, or have the terms of your spousal support obligation agreement changed to reflect your or your ex-spouse’s current financial circumstances, call our attorneys at The Maynard Law Firm, PLLC in Raleigh at (817) 335-9600.

Frances Bean Cobain’s ex-husband wants 25K per month in spousal support

Twenty-four-year-old visual artist Frances Bean Cobain, the only daughter of the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and 52-year-old Hole frontwoman Courtney Love, is struggling through her divorce. Her estranged husband, 31-year-old musician Isaiah Silva, is seeking $25,000 per month in spousal support.

Cobain filed for divorce from Silva in March 2016 after a two-year marriage. According to a report from entertainment news network TMZ, Silva is demanding that amount because he claims Cobain told him she would support him financially throughout their marriage. Because of this assertion, Silva said, he quit his job. He said Cobain told him she will pay for his monthly expenses including lodging fees and school fees for his daughter with a previous girlfriend. Silva’s filing made it clear that he and Frances Bean did not sign a prenuptial agreement prior to their wedding.

Amber Heard to donate $7M divorce settlement to charities

Amber Heard, 30, has announced that she will be donating the entirety of her $7 million dollar divorce settlement from Johnny Depp to the American Civil Liberties Union in New York and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in California. In a statement released on August 18th, Heard wrote that the money would be used to service women being abused and children with illnesses and disabilities.

Heard previously stated that she was herself a victim of domestic abuse by Depp during their 15-month marriage. Depp’s attorneys have claimed that Heard made false allegations in order to increase her settlement. Heard responded to these accusations in the statement, writing that “money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves”.

In most recent divorce petition, Amber Heard drops abuse allegations against Johnny Depp

Thirty-year-old actress Amber Heard dropped allegations of domestic abuse from her divorce petition from her husband, 53-year-old actor and producer Johnny Depp last Tuesday, August 16.

In a joint statement, Heard and Depp said, “Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm.”

Heard filed a divorce petition from Depp, only 15 months after they got married, on grounds of irreconcilable differences. She then filed a temporary restraining order against Depp, accusing him of “excessive emotional, verbal, and physical abuse” throughout the course of their marriage.

In her new divorce petition, Heard is seeking $400 million in spousal support.

Depp reached worldwide renown for his fantasy swashbuckler film series, Pirates of the Caribbean. He and Heard met on the set of his 2011 film, The Rum Diary.

Ways that Getting a Divorce Can Negatively Affect Your Health

Forty-one-year-old actress and model Drew Barrymore officially filed a divorce petition from her husband, actor Will Kopelman, on Friday, July 15, a report from the New York Daily News showed. Kopelman and Barrymore first announced that they are ending their marriage in April 2016, joining the list of other celebrity couples who decided to call it quits this year. Barrymore said that she felt like a failure after filing the divorce, which seeks to dissolve their marriage of four years.

Psychologist and sociologists said the effects of a divorce doesn’t end when a judge finalizes it in a court proceeding; some of its more negative effects can still be felt by divorcing parties over the years. “Everyone going through a divorce has raised anxiety,” Beverly Hills in Los Angeles County, California relationship psychotherapist Fran Walfish said, as an example. Aside from this, the chances that one can have a higher chance of sleep issues leading to higher blood pressure, heart attack, and depression, are present.

We at The Maynard Law Firm, PLLC are here to make sure that your needs and the needs of your family are protected, prioritized, and safeguarded. Kurt Cobain’s guitar at the center of daughter Frances Bean Cobain and Isaiah Silva’s divorce

Twenty-three-year-old visual artist Frances Bean Cobain is fighting her ex-husband, 31-year-old musician and member of the rock band The Eeries, Isaiah Silva, over the guitar of her father and musician Kurt Donald Cobain, who is most well-known for being the frontman of the 90’s grunge band Nirvana.

The guitar under discussion has been featured in Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged performance in 1993 in New York City. Its possession is at the center of Cobain and Silva’s divorce, as Cobain denies having given it to Silva as a gift, entertainment news network TMZ reported.

How social media can influence divorce cases

If an individual going through a divorce reveals information about a new job or a big bonus via email or text message, the information can be used as evidence that the individual was not entirely truthful about financial assets. Information that has not been divulged prior to the discovery of the electronic message, such as an email or text message, can be admitted in court and can be subpoenaed.

Posting on social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, can be detrimental to a lying husband or wife. If one posts about a new job or expensive vacation while filing for alimony in court, the post can be discovered by the opposing attorneys and lead to a denied request.

The attorneys at The Maynard Law Firm, PLLC are here to protect the interests of Fort Worth families, especially during divorces. Ending a marriage is often an emotional and trying time for all family members involved. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin officially divorced

Forty-three-year-old American actress Gwyneth Paltrow and 39-year-old Coldplay front man Chris Martin officially ended their 12-year marriage after a judge in Los Angeles signed their divorce petition on Thursday, July 14.

The judge did not provide much detail about the divorce agreement, but it was clear that neither Martin nor Paltrow are obligated to pay the other spousal support. Paltrow and Martin tied the knot in December 2003. They share two children together, 12-year-old Apple, who was born in London, and 10-year-old Moses, who was born in New York. The former couple made a public announcement in March 2014 that they planned on separating, a process they described as “conscious uncoupling”. The announcement first appeared on Paltrow’s lifestyle website, Goop.
